About the Author

From the classroom to the page

Edward Rodriguez has spent twelve years teaching elementary school — and this book is the story he always wanted his students, and his own family, to have.

Portrait of author Edward Rodriguez

Edward Rodriguez is an elementary school teacher from New York. Born in Glen Cove, Long Island, and raised in both Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico, he developed a unique perspective shaped by diverse cultural and personal experiences.

His childhood on a farm in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico instilled in him the core values that guide his life and teaching today: hard work, gratitude, and respect for elders. Surrounded by his nephews and nieces, Edward watched those generational connections shape how the next generation understands family, tradition, and heritage — and set out to put that feeling into a story.

When a child buys the book and starts to cry, that means it carries real feeling. That’s the biggest achievement for an author.

Abuela Grande y Abuela Chiquita is Edward’s debut book — and the first in a planned four-part collection.
